From the 3rd to the 14th of July Natureef.eu delegation made of 3 clusters and 8 SMEs did a mission to Colombia and Peru with the main aim to promote Natureef results and introduce interesting SMEs in the local environment.
The first day in Lima the delegation visited Aider, an association for the research and the integral development, and Corpoica, the National Forestry Chamber. The second day half of the delegation visited AGAP, the association of Agricultural Producers Guild of Peru and had also a field visit in Huaral, citricus fields. The second half of the delegation learnt about the ELAN PROGRAMME (European and Latin American Business Services and Innovation) is a European Union initiative that seeks to increase and diversify the EU economic presence in Latin America, by meeting the Latin American demand for knowledge and innovative technology. This was an opportunity for Natureef representatives to introduce their network and for the companies to present their technologies. For the third day, some B2B meetings and workshops about the agricultural sector in Peru were organized for the SMEs participating in the mission. The forth day was intended to visit two universities in Lima, the Agraria la Molina and the Pacific University. Participants had the opportunity to exchange with the « Nutrition center Team » and the « horticultural » team as well as to exchange on projects held in this University around agricultural sectors, mostly on new systems of production using ICT with a specific program dedicated to start-ups. A visit to the CIP, the International Center for Potatoes, was also planned. The visit was the opportunity to exchange with researchers working on European projects, since CIP is already involved in European Projects and is looking for some H2020 opportunities and partners. The other half of the participants stayed in Lima city for more B2B meetings. On the last day, one of the groups went to the CITE in the city of Ica, the centre of technological innovation, which was created 14 years ago to improve grapes productivity. It is one of the most important technological centers in Peru.
From the 10th to the 14th of July, the delegation travelled to Medellin (Colombia) where they could attend the Salon BIO3, an event focused on Biotechnology for plant sector organized by BioIntropic .The 2017 edition proposed international conferences and a B2B program. During the event two participants had also the opportunity to present the Natureef project. The event was the opportunity to meet with local authorities, clusters and universities. For the second and third day, apart from B2Bs in Cali, there were visits to two fields. The first was in Zenu, one of the main meat producers and leader in processed products and the following was in Montegarden-Silvestres, a flowerproducer. There was also a third visit in Florandina, a Hydrangea producer that exports the 90% of the production the USA and Asia. The fourth day was intended to visit Colciencias, the Administrative Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation. It organizes some calls to modernize the agricultural sector. For instance, some projects around Agroparc. The participants could also visit the AgroExpo tradefair with participants specialized in the plant sector, and to AFD Andina, the French agency of development, which was an opportunity to exchange possible projects of Agropark and the «post conflict» context. Finally, on the last day the delegation visited Tecnalia, the coordinator of the Elan project and the French Embassy, where they could identify some key contacts in the French network to support natureef projects.
Mission results suggested that although in Peru there are high levels of poverty and inequality in living conditions, a deficit in infrastructures for development, corruption problems and lack of R+D as a country, there is an increasing demand of minerals from China and new markets for development. In the same way in Colombia, although there is a low product quality and limited access to technology, agriculture is the key sector and there are few foreign actors in the market right now.
